I studied piano when I was younger for almost 15 years. It has been about as long that I have gone without. After deciding to get back into regular lessons, I tried a couple of teachers. With Jessica, upon the first time meeting her, I was comfortable and it was easy! We have consistently talked about musical elements, skills, and technique. We have also started to slowly dissect some new pieces by Chopin, Mozart, and Beethoven. Within a short amount of time, my confidence, because of Jessica’s thorough instruction and encouragement, has dramatically increased. My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Jessica since August of 2016. Although we were upset when she moved away, to Chicago from Georgia, in March of 2017, we have been very pleased to continue our lessons with Jessica via Skype. It has worked extremely well. Learning the violin is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid, and at age 40 I finally got around to it! I feel very lucky to have found Jessica as my violin instructor. She has been fantastic to work with and her insightful lessons are helping me to progress faster than I imagined. As most parents who aren’t musically inclined, hence why we are all looking for a Piano teacher; I first hired Jessica through an ad I found at a music store. My son (6 yrs old) loved the piano class and he seemed to really take an immediate liking to Jessica. I state this because, my son is quite shy and it often takes more than a few minutes for him to be comfortable talking to a new person.
While me and my son loved coming to Jessica for lessons, I must admit I didn’t really value her teaching skill-set nor her personal skills in working with children. The reason was that she was the first Piano teacher I had met. So I didn’t really have scale to measure her against. However when we stopped classes for our son (Our Schedule’s conflicted); I considered starting piano classes again for my son months later. I had however deleted Jessica’s contact information and couldn’t find the ad at the store anymore.
In the process of looking to start classes again, I asked a few friends and took a recommendation from a retired piano teacher about a friend of her’s who was an amazing pianist at a bargain price. As any parent would I called that teacher and asked her to give a trial lesson for my son.
On the first class of instruction of the new teacher it became clear to me that not all piano teachers are the same. She simply wasn’t as personable, nor did she know how to properly deal with giving music lessons to a 6 year old child. She had an old school piano book that she was working out of, instead of the kid friendly books Jessica had recommended. Don’t get me wrong she was a very skilled pianist but I think she would be best teaching a teenager or an adult. In that first class my son wanted to stop the class after 15 minutes.
This is something that had never happened before in any classes with Jessica. His interaction with the teacher was so poor that I cut the lesson short after 25 minutes when it should have been an hour long class. In that moment I noticed his love for piano was quickly starting to take a turn for the worse.
I immediately started searching after the class ended and luckily found that Jessica was now the owner of her own piano teaching business “Elite Music”. I am so grateful to have found her on Yelp and I hope this review helps other parents learn from my story. I now value and appreciate Jessica as a teacher of music so much more. Her professionalism, soft tone of her voice, her easy to understand instructions and tricks to get kids interested and excited about music is un-matched. She is worth every penny.
To end my story, my kid was ecstatic when I told him I found Jessica and that he would be his teacher once again. I advise any parent on the fence to take one trial class of her’s. Once you do, everything I just wrote will be clear to you just as it was for me and my son. Thank you Jessica I would give you 10 stars if I could, I’m glad to have you back in my son’s life as his piano teacher. Just know you have already made a huge impact of music in his life and it’s all because of how talented you really are. I wish you the best and hope this honest review helps your business flourish.
